    List of games done right:

    1. Super Smash Bros: Extremely unique game, pitting familiar characters against eachother with over the top items and comedy galore. An intense, simple, and engaging multiplayer fighter that allows for 4 people simultaneously!

Super Mario Galaxy: Game play challenges are tough, controls are top notch, and the level design is very unique. Something about traveling through space, collecting stars is very addictive – probably because of Nintendo game polish (music, sound, camera adjustments, level design, unique enemies, unique worlds and environments, clever puzzles, and intuative controls.

Starcraft II: A great single and multiplayer experience. The first Starcraft was so intense, so fast-paced, and caused my blood pressure to sky rocket – all because of great game-play, extremely balanced races, tons of strategic elements, amazing controls, music, and sound. The game is also a Blizzard game (always has polished games). Then Starcraft II came out, and it blows the first out the water. Not only are the visuals captivating, but it has every element the first Starcraft had and made it even better. New units, new strategies, balanced game-play (hard to do with three races and they’re all unique) and a whole new map-editor, that is extremely versatile and creative.

League of Legends: Great multiplayer experience. Teamwork is a must, and this game takes everything about the popular mod, Defense of the Ancients, and capitalizes on its strengths, cutting out the weaknesses of the Warcraft III game engine’s limitations to graphics and controls. League of Legends has controls that are simple, very intuative, and stay consistent throughout every character that you choose. And the game is surprisingly balanced, considering there are over 60+ characters to choose from and growing. And the company is constantly asking for game feedback, and actually listens to the public. Amazing game design and concept.

Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne: Love the map-editor, single player story and experience, and the multiplayer. Albeit the multiplayer is much slower than Starcraft, the introduction of Heroes is a nice addition to the series. The game brings in a whole new strategy to strategy games. And its a Blizzard game, so the game has tight controls, music, sound, game design, etc.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: Tight controls, great storyline, music, and sound. I actually enjoy using the Wii remote and Nunchuk to fire my bow and arrow, while riding Epona through a wide-open field or meadow. The element of exploration is a key facet to making this game great. And the controls capitalize on the Wii Remote in a great way. Just like the 64 version, the game is astonishing.

Goldeneye 64: I have to list this game because the game is a classic. A first person shooter that embraced the multiplayer experience and made it wonderfully addicting to say the least. Something about running out of ammo, slapping an opponent in the face, while playing Donkey Kong Mode, and winning a fight is o’ so satisfying. But no other game has come close to representing Bond is such a good way – I’ve yet to play the new Goldeneye. The game is extremely polished and the controls are as good as first person shooters get, considering the limitations of the N64 when the game was released. If anything, Goldeneye 64 was a milestone for 1st person shooters, as Halo is another milestone for 1st person shooters.

If you guys haven’t checked out the puzzle games on the XBLA, check out ilomilo. The game is obscenely cute but it’s one of the more fun puzzle games I’ve played in a long time.

A game that could be done right is Ready 2 Rumble round 2. First of all, it needs to have better controls. Another thing is that the game could have a better soundtrack to it just like other hip hop games. Since it is a boxing game, it should have more game modes to it like adventure mode and challenge mode. The controls are little bit sticky on this game. The controls need to be handled a little better.

I got ya, but what was done right with it. The orignal Ready to Rumble was great. You could train your character, and the game didn’t take itself too serious. This was one of the first games to have the characters mouth move while talking.

Naming a game done right is hard for me cause I hate everything, but here goes. lol

I’ve always been fascinated by one game: Marvel vs Capcom 2. From a technical/design standpoint, the game is a mess. Most of the characters are copied/pasted sprites from other games (poor Morrigan didn’t even get her’s updated). The game is full of glitches. Every character has an infinite combo (something every fighting game ever tries) of some sort, and most are not terribly difficult to perform. The balance between the game’s some 50 odd characters is awful; only about 9 or 10 of them see regular competitive use. And yet, the game has a community that has endured over 10 years and is beloved by players of all skill levels. It’s like Capcom broke all the right things to ensure that the game, while not a techinal, super-balanced masterpiece, was still incredibly fun to play.

that should be ”every fighting game ever tries to avoid”. I really ought to learn to read over what I write.

Have you heard of Brawl- (As in super smash bros)? The game is still balanced, but the motto is, ”If it’s broken, break it until it’s fixed.” It’s rather ridiculous.

what brawl is just as broken as MVC2. Tripping and sonics supers = cheapest things ever..

So I’m playing through Dead Space in hopes that I’ll get through it and play Dead Space 2 and I am scared out of my mind! I don’t know if I’m just being a baby but considering this game is meant to scare it is definitely done right.

I haven’t had a chance (more like the money) to play Dead Space yet. Is it similar to FEAR?

      • Avatar Image
        bodomchild · 1 year, 3 months ago

Eh…there is more action in FEAR. I really liked FEAR don’t get me wrong but it wasn’t all that scary to me, until the end when stuff got crazy.

I can’t play for too long it gives me anxiety haha

i know what you mean. And every time I played it I would be alone in the dark. FREAKIN OUT MANNN

      • Avatar Image
        elbowz · 1 year, 3 months ago

Well FEAR is more arcade-like in the game play. So you have haunted house parts that spook you and then BOOM ACTION SHOOTOUT and then haunted house and then ACTION SHOOT OUT. Rinse repeat.

Dead Space is like… imagine your worst fears and then multiply them ten fold.

    • Avatar Image
      captainbob · 1 year, 3 months ago

No dude, you are defiantly not being a baby. Dead Space is easily one of the scariest games. FEAR had its moments, but never really scared me. It was freaky at times, but Dead Space, man that set up situations just to scare you. Even if you knew it was coming, you still would jump.

I hate to admit it, but I think Halo is a game done right because it just renewed interest in the FPS genre. Halo created another likable protagonist and had some pretty interesting weapons. The game became a legend fast. I personally can’t stand Halo as a series, but I have to give the devil his due.

the first game was perfectly balanced. boy that didn’t last long

I liked all of the halo games except 3. The flood was just soooooooo not what I wanted. I though Reach was the best of the series.

I feel like most games that are so huge for their genre should learn to stop while they are ahead… I just personally feel like games like GTA and Halo have been milked for all they’re worth, but guess money comes in so I can’t blame them. Seriously, though, enough is enough.

Grand Theft Auto III was well done. The game allowed people the freedom they wanted in a game and bright rise to open-world games.

Wolfenstien 3D is the first First-Person Shooter and brought about a new genre. FPS wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Wolfenstien or Doom. Doom helped popularize the genre.

Yes, those games are huge for the industry. They were definitely done right and, like you said, things would not exist or at least be what they are now if it weren’t for them.

Portal is definately a game done right. The game is unique in the sense that it combines puzzle, adventure, and platforming. On top of that it even has a story that is interesting and keeps you playing.

      elbowz · 1 year, 3 months ago

      I’m so ready for Portal2.

What I loved about portal 1, other than the story and unique game play was the fact that it was a good game to speed run. If you wanted to play portal, you could have it done in an hour and then get on with your day which, to me, adds a lot more replay because of the little amount of time it takes to beat it.

one game that didn’t have to change the way it was played because it was DONE RIGHT is Pokemon. Talk about an amazing rpg/adventure game. The ONLY thing that this series seemed to do wrong is A) make the yellow version, where pikachu followed you around and B) not make a Pokemon MMO! (or a console version of the gameboy game…in 3D)

talk about fanboyism.. I got all the original 150 cards too, but who didn’t. I should find them and sell them. Do you think they’re worth any money?

yeah they’re worth money. i think i have some southern islands left myself.

Pokemon has too many pokemon. And yes some of those cards are worth a lot. I once worked with the biggest dweeb, didn’t get any of my nerd jokes/ references, I made fun of him constantly and then one day he tells me he’s a regional champion in pokemon cards and goes through his strategy in deck building and playing and needless to say, his nerd cred jumped tenfold.

I agree with everything here except the Yellow version ”problem”. I loved that little Pikachu when I was younger, it used to upset me when he got all pissy.

I remember when I first got yellow version and pretty much had an aneurysm when I found out Pikachu followed you around.

i still have an epic holographic gyrados lol
anyone know if its worth anything?

      captainbob · 1 year, 3 months ago

I think I would have enjoyed the Red and Blue version more if my Pokemon that I chose followed me around like the yellow version did just because that’s how the cartoon was. When I was a kid I was addicted to the game. Good call, I almost forgot about the gameboy Pokemon games.
