Highly recommend their psu’s and this is my first set of their ram but so far its been really great. Passed burn in with no problem first go and didn’t really have to tweek them a ton to get it flowing nicely :)

I’ve moved on to google chrome a long time ago :/

    • Avatar Image
      exiledskies · 1 year, 3 months ago

i left a reply. but it now seems to have disappeared into glitch heaven.

try a program called glarys utilities. it sound like you may have some spyware or some registry errors. glarys utilities covers a very broad spectrum of problems ( its also free) so give it a shot..

    • Avatar Image
      exiledskies · 1 year, 3 months ago

      is the problem still persistent?

    • Avatar Image
      endorox · 1 year, 3 months ago

Google chrome is pretty good. I like it much better than internet explorer and mozzila. THey tend to get viruses easier.

      • Avatar Image
        seprez · 1 year, 3 months ago

its not a virus problem because it was like that ever since i built the comp, and google chrome i tried but i dont like its interface

I am good with running SDK on Windows 7 and using it for my game projects. I have more availability with windows explorer and mozilla for the browser games as well.

I’ve got an Asus motherboard with:

    Athlon FX-74 Dual Core @ 3.2ghz
    4gb DDR2 PC8500 (2 Mushkin, 2 PNY)
    eVga 9600GT SSC
    900gb @ 7200RPM

    • Avatar Image
      elbowz · 1 year, 3 months ago

I was reading about Athlon cpus in an article for top gaming cpus for January 2011 and I had never heard of them. Was there a reason you went with it or was it just what you decided to put in?

      • Avatar Image
        defendor1374 · 1 year, 3 months ago

At the time, that was the fastest dual core CPU available, and Intel was still stuck on their old CPU/RAM bottleneck (what was it, something like 233 MHz?). I also had (technically still have, although they aren’t made anymore) the option to put a second CPU on the motherboard.

In any case, Athlons were for a long time the best CPUs for gaming because their bandwidth between the CPU and RAM was much higher than Intel’s. Intel had faster chips, but it didn’t actually increase the speed at which they ran games due to the bottleneck.

I don’t blame you for not hearing about them, though, they’re practically like the Macs’ of the CPU world. They’ve been hovering at around 10% market share for a really long time. Nowadays, AMD and Intel are on a much more level playing field, performance-wise.

ok so WTF! anyone using windows 7 64bit that figured out how to work Unity? When I try to open the application it just loads for 3 seconds and stops like a big F U.

I had a friend put it on his D drive…but that’s my CD drive…I don’t have an empty drive. Should I just throw it the regular Program Files folder as opposed to the x86 one?

If anyone has suggestions please let me know. It’s the difference of a 15 inch monitor to a 24 inch monitor

is it set to work at an administrator level? and did you make sure to keep it in compatibility mode with windows xp?

    • Avatar Image
      elbowz · 1 year, 3 months ago

      Maybe there’s a 64x version of Unity?

    • Avatar Image
      seprez · 1 year, 3 months ago

there’s no x64 version of unity and i have the exact same problem, but i read online that it might be the 2010 Kaspersky that i installed on my computer, im gonna try replacing that with a 2011 or 2009 and see how it works then because i had the pre 3.0 version of unity and it worked just fine on my x64 computer

What if d3 requires a Crysis box? How intense would that be?

    • Avatar Image

Starcraft 2 has and extreme graphics setting, my processor is not fast enough even though its at 3.2 ghz lol i keep that setting on medium so i can actually play the game

I’m a Mac! But I did partition my hard drive using bootcamp just for the SDE program and have half of it running Windows 7.

    • Avatar Image
      elbowz · 1 year, 3 months ago

I wish my mac had enough space on it for a partition. I’ve just come to terms with waiting until I get home to work on 3ds max stuff etc.

      • Avatar Image
        phermeus · 1 year, 3 months ago

Yea, I don’t use very much space at all. Honestly, I would like to know how so many people use that much hard drive space. I only have a 120gb hard drive.

    • Avatar Image
      arm17kent · 1 year, 3 months ago

i HATE that 3ds max doesn’t work for mac. Maya does. So WTF Autodesk, step it up.

      • Avatar Image
        elbowz · 1 year, 3 months ago

As I’ve said before ”No because 3ds MAX. Like plural mac. Macs. 3ds Macs. Come on Autodesk.”

    • Avatar Image
      red2 · 1 year, 3 months ago

I thought about buying a mac and partitioning it with boot camp to run all of those SDE programs that are PC only. How is it working for you. I had heard rumors that 3DS Max and some other programs don’t work very well on bootcamp.

      • Avatar Image
        phermeus · 1 year, 3 months ago

I have no problem running any of the SDE programs that need PC. I have 3DS Max 2011 used it all of last semester. Unity works, Visual Studio works. I’d say go for it… Macs are cooler haha

I’m currently on a gigabyte mobo (that doesn’t have RAID capability and it makes me seething mad) with:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHZ
RAM: 2 Gigabyte 2g sticks (their speed escapes me atm)
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
HDD: Two 1tb Western Digital HDD at 7200 rpm

all smushed into a small cool master case.

    • Avatar Image
      endorox · 1 year, 3 months ago

i heard the NVIDIA GeForce GTX can crash your computer over time

      • Avatar Image
        defendor1374 · 1 year, 3 months ago

Well, seeing as you can say that about literally any piece of hardware, that’s probably true. Otherwise, the GTX doesn’t increase the chances of your computer having issues.

Also how do you feel about you amd/ati combo?

    • Avatar Image
      seprez · 1 year, 3 months ago

ive been using AMD for years on my old comp as well which had a weaker radeon lol
but its really smooth compared to some Intel comps ive seen that my cousins used

      • Avatar Image
        elbowz · 1 year, 3 months ago

It’s also cheaper than some intel compus -_- Really enticing cpus, I need to save money lol

I am with you on the AMD builds, I have always built amd systems until the i7. They were always extremely stable and took one hell of an overclocking beating haha :)
