The Homework Group: 1 year, 3 months ago · Viewdoes anyone have any good unity references out there? im trying to make multiple targeting possible on a turret. except the only code i found is insanely advanced. it cant be the homework assignment
If you already know the structure of the code you’d use but are simply unsure of the syntax, the scripting reference is a great help – in the main window, just go to help->scripting reference
yeah, ive been looking stuff up on their. what i think i need is a really good book or a tutorial online. i seem to be failing at grasping unity
How familiar are you with scripting languages or programming in general? You might benefit by just finding some basic programming tutorials if you’re not really familiar with programming, because most of the knowledge learned from that is transferable.
yeah i may need that too. but not all programs use the exact same code right? untiy may use c one way while xna does somehting different right?
You’re in the AI class correct? You’d be using C# either way – the main differences arise from the fact that Unity runs on scripts, whereas in Visual Studio, you’d have to program in the visual elements and other stuff yourself. If there’s something specific you’re stuck on, I could try to help you, though I’d try to avoid giving you the answer entirely, for obvious learning reasons.
im personally against that kind of thing anyway.
i guess my biggest headache right now is figuring out the homework for the ai class.
nothing comes to mind in making an ai discover multiple targets and tagging someone as the primary target. theres a reference in the book. but it involves memory and some other crazy aspects…its clearly not what he wants.i wish he followed the book
Whoops, I wish I’d seen this a bit earlier – Since I know the primary target thing was a bonus objective, if you still want to know, the easiest way to accomplish this is to create a boolean variable and if it’s true, disallow your function to switch targets. When the target you’re locked on to leaves the targeting area or it dies, switch the variable back to false so you can lock on to another target.
i finally managed to figure most of it out. thanks for the ideas
unity answers definitely saved me!

Have a constant bombardment of text in the form of like lasers or something. Something that the player has to dodge. You know like make it a metaphor (like the feed) about trying to accomplish things while having to dodge all the crap our feeds throw at us.
lol. i like it
im personally think of adding that and maybe a huge twitter bird exploding in mid air.
oo maybe you activate a computer and get flooded with facebook statuses

The Homework Group: 1 year, 3 months ago · Viewim seeing a couple different people now asking for coding help.
how about we just start posting questions?
ill start first, when your placing something in the first area of the script, i think its called a public class. since its separated from the draw and update section. does this mean its like a law that all the other sections have to follow? or does it just mean its a function that is happening all the time ( it has supremacy?)?
ok. someone corrected it for me. i was getting a little too far ahead. at first its purely like a dictionary definition. then from their it can turn into laws with whats written down below.
second question: is there anyway to make xna catch an error in the act?
like if you forget to capitalize something, is there anyway to make xna do it for you as you go. i know this treading toward usability concerns ( which xna barely has any of) but is there a setting i can just switch on?
it would make my day go a whole lot quicker then it is right now….

The Homework Group: 1 year, 3 months ago · Viewi just read the read the clay shirky assignment and i now have a question. when theprinting press first came to the world and we now had many types of books being printed… was it a massive succes or did they immediately struggle with the idea of " is our book gonna sell?" the videogame [...]
I think the patterns are synonymous with content. Each medium has a general sense of what’s going to be good and what’s not (or what’s worth buying and what’s not). Kinect is stagnant because the Wii works just fine. Why go out and spend money for something that’s nearly the same? (sort of, lol) I think these ”blind” spots are more like a lack of creativity from producers rather than a lack of insight from consumers. So when there’s a dip in the creative process, people go out and buy some half-ass content because they crave something new, regardless of how it was rated by Entertainment Weekly or IGN.
theres a problem with the whole kinect thing though. unlike other ideas that clearly fit in the argument…they sold 5 million units within just a month ( or two).
also, im not sure it because we crave for games during a dry spell that we make the risk. im more bent on the idea its because we see the same thing over and over again. so when someone shows something that is even a little bit different ( regardless if we know it sucks) we give it a chance.back to the question though….. there are vast differences in the way people learned if something was good or not. back then you basically had word of mouth since news papers weren’t really big then ( no printing method yet). or maybe an author who succeeded would recommend one of his apprentices or something. while as of today we have mags, books, blogs,tv,radio, god you name it… we have it.
i guess what im asking is if their is a definable pattern
like if a new console is out, and its less then one year in the market, then sales wont go beyond a certain digit.at 2 years however, their is a massive increase
at 3 years, sales relatively stay the same , however a dip is expected
at 4 years, sales plummet.
has something like this always been around?
