Deconstructing Games: 5 months ago · ViewAnother way to make an antagonist interesting; hide them with the protagonist or even make them one of the hero’s friends. Make it so that the audience cares, then have them oppose the hero.

Deconstructing Games: 5 months ago · ViewA good way to gain interest is to take the protagonist and antagonist, and switch their alignment. Take the protagonist and make him evil or malicious; likewise, take the antagonist and make heroic and/or noble.

Deconstructing Games: 5 months ago · ViewFor an interesting antagonist, you can make them the relatable character. It makes it harder for the audience to pass judgment on them, and also makes it harder for the viewer to root against them. If done right, they can even gain a few fans.

Deconstructing Games: 5 months, 1 week ago · ViewOne particular desire, which is actually a resolution to a pet peeve, is that I would like for Square Enix to make games that actually look like the opening and closing cinematics. mmrichter posted on the forum topic Has a game ever made you cry? in the group
Deconstructing Games: 5 months, 1 week ago · ViewKH Days and Birth by Sleep made me sad from the ultra depressing fate of the all characters involved except for the villain. SotC tugged at me just from the ending all around. Valkyria hit me because of the FF-style gut punch. Heavy Rain was emotional for a different reason; several scenes were insane fuel [...]

mmrichter posted on the forum topic What's a game that you were peer pressured into getting even though you didn't like it? Why didn't y in the group
Deconstructing Games: 5 months, 1 week ago · ViewAnother local wave that has passed me over is the Modern Warfare series. It may be uncool, but I just don’t play shooters. I prefer my fights be the way they were meant to be fought: with EWGfists, Hurricane Kicks, Soul Edges, and Fireballs! Interestingly enough, I managed to peer-pressure myself recently: I suggested Payback [...]

Deconstructing Games: 5 months, 1 week ago · ViewMore closer to home, my local friends endlessly push Madden on me. I mean, I play games to get away; if I wanted to play sports, I’d go outside [...]

mmrichter posted on the forum topic What elements can make games more entertaining than movies? in the group
Deconstructing Games: 5 months, 1 week ago · ViewI think games can be more entertaining than movies, because it’s easier to feel connected to the characters. You actively spend time fighting with them, keeping them alive, healing them when they’re sick. They’re basically extensions of ourselves, so when they are in danger, we feel like we are in danger. When they accomplish something, [...]

Deconstructing Games: 5 months, 2 weeks ago · ViewOne thing that makes a protagonist interesting is to give them a near-fatal flaw and have them recognize it. The struggle with that flaw in their character makes them relatability as that’s something that everyone struggles with, and often rooting for them to succeed.

Deconstructing Games: 5 months, 2 weeks ago · ViewOne of the running themes in writing circles is one of the surefire ways to make a compelling story is take a really good character and then torture them (see: Batman, Spider-man, etc.). Deconstructing Games: 5 months, 2 weeks ago · ViewConversely, I’m least immersed in games that give congitive dissonace. Most recently, those seem. to be motion games; as Yahtzee Croshaw said and I agree with, it’s hard to be immersed in a game that requires to get up and move. For instance, it gets distracting when your avatar’s sword bounces off something when your [...]
